TRAVEL → i-10 is the fastest route, taking them through slidell and diamondhead, but if they take us-90, they'll be closer to the water and actually pass through bay st louis, henderson point, pass christian, and long beach before reaching gulfport, which is where their air bnb is mostly because there were nicer options there than in pass christian itself. ari is naturally a night owl (and bossy), so he doesn't mind driving nor would he mind the more "scenic" route, being able to see it well as night as well • mock wedding → anyone can be the officiant and anyone can be the bride(s)/groom(s) but they have to "marry" someone. it's meant to symbolise new life, which is highkey relevant given that there are a lot of children born in scandanavian countries (especially sweden) 9-10 months after midsummer • divination → if you put seven different flowers under your pillow before bed, you'll dream of the person you're going to marry • skinnydipping → before the night ends, a final dip is mandatory • intoxication? → ari has to do this secondhand, obviously, but he can have either a) brought something in a cooler or b) decided to drink from one of their intoxicated new friends |

midsummer is the period of time centered upon the summer solstice, and more specifically the northern european celebrations that accompany the actual solstice or take place on a day between june 19 and june 25 and the preceding evening. the exact dates vary among different cultures. the celebration predates christianity, and existed under different names and traditions around the world. it is said that the little folk (the elves and fairies) can be easily seen on midsummer’s eve because this is one of the days when the veil between the two worlds is thin and can be easily trespassed.
