Elsie Isabeau was an accident. Her parents were young, not quite in love, and barely knew each other, but one month later, they were making plans to fix all of that. Sort of.

Her father, Winston, disappeared before Elsie was born and left Yvonne with a lot of questions in the aftermath. Whenever the topic came up in the years that followed, he made sure to emphasize that he hadn't meant to leave and that he came home as soon as he could– the reasons for why he left wouldn't be discovered until after his and Yvonne's untimely deaths.

Magic and otherworldly occurrences weren't as much of a secret to Yvonne as they should have been, even before meeting Winston, thanks as much to her proximity to a border as to the magical folks who crossed with little interest in blending in. She knew something was off, and Winston and their children (two mages, one walker) told her just what she had been missing. They rooted their family in Chicago, however, maintaining a close distance from Yvonne's family in the human world, with regular visits to the other side as the children came into their abilities.

Yvonne and Winston's passing left behind a fifteen-year-old Elsie to tend to her two younger brothers, ushering them into the home of an aunt who didn't know how to care for these new additions. Their money problems only grew under this new roof, and Elsie, a newly skilled walker, found a quick way to remedy the missing funds for school supplies and new clothes. It became second nature, an obvious way to get ahead and give her family the life she felt they deserved: her targets became larger as they got older, needing to put them through higher education and ensure their safety as their abilities grew, too.

Eventually, life caught up to her— the details of what caused the career change are scarce and hard to pin down, but they involve a French bulldog, a road trip, and an old god.

at her best, elsie is bright, tenacious, and compassionate. at her worst, she is stubborn, impulsive, hot-headed, and secretive. years of therapy has helped put the best foot forward more often than not, but the time spent living in her secrets out of necessity can be hard to hamper down. as a result, she does not always offer information and can be slow to trust, but loves wholeheartedly through her own way.
