once upon a time, a man and a woman had a son. as all children deserve to, he should have grown to adulthood, resigned to live as a farmer or find life as a trader on the open seas. instead he was taken too soon, drowned in the river near arnhem. the couple mourned the loss of their only son, but felt blessed by god when they found a lost child wandering the banks of that same river a few days later. they called him leo, as their own son had been, but gave him a second name that indicated where they had found him: leo of the rhine, son of the water.he was a difficult child, often getting to fights with peers that lived nearby and disappearing for days at a time only to be once again found by the water, but never in it. as the siblings that followed him died in infancy, rumour began to spread that perhaps he was to blame.
