Based on our usual album cycle, Paper Sea is due for an album in early 2023, May at the latest. Ideally that means we would finish by January so that promo can begin, but during the most recent meeting, we're some ways away from another record. I know that Andy and Max worked on a few new tracks for a potential Phantoms of Eden album that's been (to my understanding) shelved. Last discussions with Clive indicated that Andy is doing well enough to start to return to the studio when he's ready, but Jamie says November. It is, of course, up to Andy to make the decision about how early he feels prepared to make that transition back to working; however, I think that considering a Greatest Hits Never Released record as Alan suggested may be worthy of further consideration. The Paper Sea discography is more extensive than
I understand the reluctance to drop something that feels "from the vault" as it mirrors what Harlowe is doign with her re-records, but as this is all new music, I think that the projects are different enough as to not attract controversy. I agree with Alan about making a double album with the original and remastered versions of the songs. It will allow you (mostly Andy) to feel satisfied with any edits, but keep the rougher cuts that the long time fans will appreciate hearing.
If we do move forwards with a new album, we would want to begin recording no later than December. We have potential dates for a tour beginning in April, beginning with replacement dates for this previous tour, but with an updated set list. For re-records, it can wait until after the Christmas holidays, and would be unlikely to include a tour, giving everyone additional time off.
There's another opening in the calendar for an October release date if you'd prefer to wait, but the label recommends additional promotion during the summer and early autumn to avoid extended periods of time without releasing content. Continuing to make public posts on instagram would be a good start, Andy. Let me know your thoughts when you get the chance. We'll have an (approved) quick meeting on the sixth at the usual time.
